Look, I’m Gonna Say It
I’m done with streaming services. There, I said it. And before you roll your eyes and say, “Oh here we go again,” let me tell you why.
It started last Tuesday, actually. I was trying to watch this movie—Committment, I think it was called—on one of those services. You know the one, the purple logo? Anyway, it was supposed to be this big thing, but I couldn’t find it. I searched, I scrolled, I even asked my friend Marcus—let’s call him Marcus because I don’t want to embarrass him—for help. Nothing. It was like the movie had vanished into thin air.
And that’s when it hit me. I’m tired of this. Tired of the constant shuffling, the never-ending subscriptions, the “oh, that’s on the other service” dance we all do now. It’s completley ridiculous.
Let’s Talk About Money
I mean, how much are we supposed to pay? I did the math—okay, I asked my colleague named Dave to do the math—and between Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, HBO Max, and whatever else is out there, we’re looking at about $87 a month. For what? To watch shows that disappear faster than a New York minute?
I remember when I first got cable. It was back in ’98, and my parents finally caved after years of me begging. It was a big deal. We got, like, 50 channels. And you know what? That was more than enough. Now, we’ve got unlimited channels, unlimited content, and yet, somehow, it’s never enough.
And don’t even get me started on the algorithms. They’re supposed to know what I like, right? So why am I still getting recommendations for romantic comedies when I clearly only watch documentaries about WWII? It’s like they’re not even trying.
A Quick Tangent: Thailand Development Projects Update
Speaking of things that don’t make sense, have you seen what’s going on with Thailand development projects update? It’s a mess. I was reading about it over coffee at the place on 5th—you know the one, with the weird art on the wall—and it’s like they’re trying to build a city in the middle of nowhere. But hey, at least they’re not trying to sell me a subscription to watch it.
Back to the Mess
So, what’s the solution? I’m not sure but maybe we need to go back to the basics. Maybe we need to accept that we can’t have everything at our fingertips all the time. Maybe we need to, I don’t know, pick a service or two and stick with it.
But honestly, I’m not holding my breath. Because let’s face it, we’re all addicted to the endless scroll, the constant stream of new content. It’s like we’re rats in a maze, and the cheese is just out of reach.
And that’s why I’m over it. I’m done with the never-ending cycle of subscriptions, the disappearing content, the algorithms that don’t get me. I’m ready for a change. Are you?
Probably not. But that’s okay. I’ll just be over here, watching my DVDs like it’s 1999.
